Join hundreds of supporters, survivors, caregivers, families, and friends for a morning of movement, community, and hope. Whether you run, walk, jog, or stroll the beautiful path along the river—with iconic views of the Philadelphia skyline and the historic boathouses—this is your chance to make every step count in the fight against lymphedema and other lymphatic diseases.
Why Your Participation Matters
The Lymphatic Education & Research Network (LE&RN) is the only nonprofit organization in the world working to combat life-threatening lymphatic diseases and lymphedema through research, education, and advocacy. Your participation directly funds:
- – Breakthrough scientific research into the causes and treatments of lymphatic disease
- – Patient education programs that improve quality of life for millions
- – Legislative advocacy to secure insurance coverage and research funding
- – Community outreach and support networks for those living with LD
Event Options & Route
This event offers two great choices for all abilities:
- Timed 5K – A competitive out-and-back run/walk along the scenic, car-free MLK Jr. Drive.
- Untimed 1-Mile Walk/Run – A relaxed, family-friendly option.
Both options follow the closed MLK roadway along the Schuylkill River. The 1-mile option will turn around at the half-mile marker, while the 5K continues to its designated turnaround point before returning to the Schuylkill Banks Pergola finish line.
All participants start together at the Pergola. This car-free route on a beautiful Sunday morning makes for a safe, enjoyable, and scenic experience!

Event Day Schedule
Registration opens at 7:00 AM at the Schuylkill Banks Pergola, with the race starting promptly at 8:00 AM.
After you check in, take some time to visit our exhibiting partners and enjoy light snacks. There will also be brief opening remarks before the race begins.
Once the race is complete, all participants will return to the Pergola for the post-event celebration. We'll announce the winners, award medals, and share some closing remarks to wrap up the morning.
Location & Parking Details
The walk starts at the Schuylkill Banks Pergola, located along the Schuylkill River trail near the northern end of Schuylkill Banks (just south of the Philadelphia Museum of Art and accessible from MLK Jr. Drive). On Sunday, June 28, MLK Jr. Drive will be closed to motor vehicles (as is standard on weekends April–November), creating a car-free recreational space that makes the area especially walkable and bike-friendly.
Parking options: If driving, convenient lots include the Eakins Oval Lot (2451 Benjamin Franklin Parkway) and the Philadelphia Museum of Art garage. Both are a short, scenic walk downhill to the trail and Pergola. Direct vehicle access along MLK Drive is not available that day.
